MAR Call to Action on Mortgage Interest Deduction
Posted on Jan 31, 2012 in Real Estate by nwilkes
Do you think the mortgage interest deduction is important for homeowners? Is it important for our industry? Under a new Maryland legislative proposal, the mortgage interest deduction could be at risk. We need you to respond to MAR’s Call to Action to tell our Maryland legislators to speak out against this proposal. MAR has prepared a press release on the issue along with a detailed study outlining real estate’s impact on the Maryland economy.

Besides responding to Call to Action alerts, how else can you help? We can support candidates that understand that homeownership is a pivotal part of our economy. We ask that you consider making a donation to the REALTORS Political Action Committee (RPAC). An investment in RPAC is an investment in homeownership. RPAC supports candidates that support homeownership. It is not an investment in the Republican party or the Democratic party – it is an investment in the REALTOR® party. To learn more about RPAC, click here.

You will need to login for the FCAR website. Checks for RPAC contributions can also be sent to the FCAR office.
RPAC Contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are use for political purposes. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal and the National Association of REALTORS® or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used for your state PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state reaches its RPAC goal, 30% is sent to National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C.411; after the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.
