NAR: New Call For Action

NEW Call for Action – Work Not Done on Tax Reform!
Now that the House and Senate have approved their respective tax reform plans, a conference committee is set to decide the fate of several provisions impacting the real estate industry. NAR has launched a new Call for Action to urge those elected officials serving on the conference committee to offer better protections for homeowners. They include:
- Retaining the $1 million cap on the Mortgage Interest Deduction (MID) contained in the Senate version, as opposed to the $500,000 limit in the House
- Keeping capital gains exclusions for primary residences at their current levels following 2 years of ownership; both versions currently require 5 years of residence, and the House version includes income limitations
- Retaining the MID for second homes, which is eliminated in the House version
Thanks to Realtor® participation in previous Calls for Action, we have already added amendments which improve this bill for Realtors® and for homeowners alike. Let’s keep the momentum going!
