Opportunities for Civic Involvement

Opportunities for REALTORS to be involved!

Bill Woodcock, FCAR Legislative Committee Chair, is also a member of the Frederick County Board of Elections. Bill reminds us that the opportunities for REALTORS® to be involved are many. “Some say it is our Civic Duty to vote, and that is quite true, but beyond that is the wonderful opportunity to affect our everyday lives and how we make a living. Every vote counts.

Looking for REALTOR® friendly candidates? The Maryland REALTORS® website is a good source for coverage on candidates and where they stand on property rights, and on issues important to REALTORS® and homeowners.

How can you be involved?

Register to Vote    *    Vote    *    Serve as an Election Judge
To register to vote, call 301-600-VOTE to request an application be mailed to you. You can download an application from the State of MD Board of Elections. Pick up an application at any library, MVA, Post office, Public high school, or at the County Courthouse, the Board of Elections office, or FCC.
Voting has Changed This Year:
The state of Maryland has returned to paper ballots this year, as a result of legislation passed in 2007, that addresses the state’s desire to return to a “paper trail”. The regular voting day locations will use paper ballots, while the early voting locations will use touchpads that then produce a paper ballot.

You can view the first Public Information Video here, to learn all the details of the voting system in Frederick County. Another excellent resource is the Frederick County Board of Elections web page here. You can like them on Facebook for the latest news. The public libraries will have Hands-on demonstrations of the voting machines for those who are unfamiliar.

Early Voting:
Registered voters will be allowed to vote early this year, both in the Primary and in the General Election. There are three locations; voters may use any one of them:
  • Frederick County Department of Aging/Senior Center, 1440 Taney Ave. Frederick
  • Thurmont Regional Library, 76 East Moser Rd. Thurmont
  • Urbana Regional Library, 9020 Amelung St. Frederick

Early voting occurs from April 14 through April 21, 10 am to 8 pm for the Primary Election. The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, April 26, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Serve as an Election Judge

The county is in need of about 200 election judges. The position pays $100 and requires a one day commitment of 16 hours. Contact the Frederick County Board of Elections at 301-600-VOTE (8683) to learn more, or email: electionjudge@frederickcountymd.gov

A big thanks to Bill Woodcock for serving us on the Board of Elections, and for keeping us informed!
